Swedish is an official language in Finland (1919) and in the EU (1995). Sweden itself however has no official language. Since 1999 Sweden has five minority languages: Finnish, Yiddish, Meänkieli/Tornedal Finnish, Romani and Sami. There is talk about making Swedish the official language of Sweden (Motion 2008/09:Kr284 Svenska som officiellt huvudspråk i Sverige http://www.riksdagen.se/webbnav/?nid=410&dokid=GW02Kr284).
