Talk:Customize Your Profile
The CouchSurfing Wiki, an informal workspace which anyone can edit.
You can use the <nowiki> tag to make things easier on this page. E.g. <a href='http://couchsurfing.com'>. GuakaTalkCS 00:56, 16 October 2006 (EST)
A lot of this will end up in very bad htmlcode. midschCS 16:47, 21 October 2006 (CEST)
- Yeah that's so true! In fact, FONT tags are considered bad. And some profiles look pretty bad. But if people want it like that, they're free to do so :) GuakaTalkCS 15:15, 21 October 2006 (EDT)
Yep, font tags are "depleted" or however they say... but I guess they're quite good enough for the basic user. Thank you guys for the tips and improvements on the article! Carlosnader in CS
- I know that some people are crazy on colors. I don't mind if there are messing up their profiles. Maybe we could add a "this is a really ugly profile layout"-button? No, I'm kidding. But we should keep in mind: invalid or bad code keeps people with restrictions like lowlevel technical equipment or handicaps (colorblind ...) out. This was part of the article: COULD SOMEBODY POST HERE HOW TO LINK TO A SONG? I AM A MUSICIAN AND I WOULD LIKE FOR MY MUSIC TO PLAY WHEN MY PROFILE IS VIEWED. Thanks!
- I just added a line why this is bad. If someone feel like giving hints for the necessary tags, go ahead, but external sources are already mentioned at the end of the article. midschCS
Hey all. Re: the font tags. As this is the "Pimpin' Your Profile" Wiki.. why don't we show them how to do it with CSS? Obviously a bit more complex, but if there are examples, it shouldn't really matter. It's just a crap inconsistent message to say "font tags are bad, but here's how to use them to make your profile pretty" HTML. Thoughts? --geva 06:12, 23 November 2006 (EST)
- I agree. I would have done it but all my experiments with <span>/<div> get removed while updating the profile. midschCS 13:59, 23 November 2006 (EST)
little "hacks"
With little effort it is possible to:
- add yourself to your friends list
I can't see any drawback for this. - send to yourself CS request, and reply.
I don't know if this practice really impact on CS replies percentage. But it shouldn't at all! IMHO I guess this it doesn't. - leave a reference to your self
I didn't tried actually..
- mark your profile as interesting
can't figure out if it really impacts on the score.
I don't think this practices should be explained in this article. Someone hierarchically over me should decide if do something for avoid this stuffs. At least check that is not really possible to increase CS replies %.
- Hey Marra! Interesting. I reported it as a bug, see csbug:173.
- Also, I'm Tech Team Coordinator, but I try to move away from hierarchical systems :) to do-ocracy and adhocracy. I just think that this little hacks should be avoided, and most people will agree with me. It will just be a matter of time before a developer (and it could be me) feels the need to do something about it. And, I'm also working on ways to get many more developers on board.
- Thanks for mentioning it! GuakaTalkCS 18:21, 4 November 2006 (EST)
It has been tweaked to apply to XHTML 2.0 standards hence why <br> is now <br />, to apply to the rule that everything must have a closing tag. This is also shown for the <img src"" /> aswell. It has been known a while back people decided to completely destroy this work, just a word of warning I wouldn't bother, as its pointless vandalism. Also someone today took out the %20, they are they to signify a blank space, for example man RUNNING MAN you see how the profile doesn't show? Now try RUNNING MAN
And to add <pre>tags were added.
Its getting better!
