What makes an ideal CouchSurfer?

What are some qualities that all CouchSurfers should try to embody?
Who should we try to emulate?

  • People who understand that taking small risks can be a way of stimulating growth and positive change.
  • People who have a want or need to move around and explore, if not physically, then mentally.
Related: People who can appreciate a willingness to learn, and who strive to never stop learning.
  • People who are unafraid of meeting new people, and recognizing familiar qualities in complete strangers.
  • People whose anal-retentive habits don't interfere with their ability to relax and have fun.
Related: People who can throw a party and not expect that all guests do the dishes and make their beds afterwards, but appreciate it if they do.
  • Hosts who want to share with their guests; guests who want to give back to their hosts.
  • People who generally believe in trusting one another and helping each other for the common good, not for greedy or selfish purposes.
Related: People who would try to return a found wallet to its rightful owner.
Related: People who would be willing to, once they already had the means to support themselves, volunteer for a "good cause", without financial compensation or public recognition.
  • People who attempt to learn multiple languages in order to ease the barriers that languages can create.
  • People who are open-minded, not only in sharing their homes, but in listening to others in a way that is more tolerant than judgmental.
Related: People who can understand that some cultural differences might come across as "rude", but that when others are raised with them, they shouldn't be made to feel "wrong", if they aren't harmful.
