Wanaka

Located in central Otago near the south of the country. Nestled by mountains with ski fields and Lake Wanaka. The town, caters for tourists, and has a better pace of life compared with busy Queenstown. Queenstown is 50 minutes south. Dunedin is four hours away, and Christchurch five hours away.

Tips
The people here are more welcoming then in Queenstown. The nightlife is filled with tourists and locals alike. In winter every second person will be on the slopes during the day. Don't be afraid to meet new friends anywhere.
Attractions
Over Easter there is an aeroplane show called "War birds over Wanaka" which is a great family event for all.
Winter time is the busiest time of the year, with ski fields at Cadrona, Crown range and Treble Cone.
This spring,(2006) the Oceania Climbing championships was hosted for free at the new climbing wall near Puzzling World, on the road east out of town.
