La Wallonie or Wallonia is the French speaking part of Belgium. Located in the South of the country, its capital city is Namur.
Welcome to Wallonia
You wish to plan a trip to our beautiful region ? But you don't know how to get there ? Don't know what to do ?
Then, check this out !
How do I get there ?
There are many options on how to reach Wallonia.
- The first one is obviously by plane. Wallonia has 2 airports : one in Liège (also called Bierset Liège) and one in Charleroi (also called "Brussels South"). There are shuttles liaising Charleroi's airport to the train station from where you can go anywhere in Belgium. From and to Liège's airport, you can take a taxi (15€ to 22€) that will take you to/from the train station. There are also regular busses. You have to take line 53.
- You can also arrive via Brussels Airport. On its website, you will find all useful information on how to reach and leave the airport.
How do I travel around the region ?
The easiest way, as said above, is to travel by train. - SNCB/NMBS is the Belgian railway network. You can go basically everywhere by train. Just check their website for schedules. - If you need to make smaller journeys around Wallonia (e.g.: from the station to your host's place), taking the bus is the best way to do that. The TEC will take you even to small villages.
What do I wear ? (Climate & weather)
Wallonia has a continental climate.
In the winter, be ready to wear warm clothes. Always take an umbrella. And though it doesn't snow often, it might feel colder than it is because of the wind.
In the summer, always check the weather online before coming. Some summers have temperatures reaching 27°C and some only 17°C. It depends. But make sure to bring an umbrella.
