There is a page on CouchSurfing showing what people are interested in doing: http://couchsurfing.com/amb_volunteer_interest.html

There is an amazing number of people interested in helping out. They should all be contacted and integrated!

To be sent to people interested in Technology: Development

Hello there!

We're at the CouchSurfing Collective in New Zealand and just found out about your interest in working on tech stuff for CouchSurfing. That might have been a while ago, but right now we're working hard to make CouchSurfing more decentralized and transparent. This implies creating a lot of room for people to help out.

We have set up bugs.couchsurfing.com, where everybody is welcome to work on bug descriptions. And on feature requests, which will start as Requests for Enhancements on the CouchSurfing Wiki. The Wiki is used a lot by Collective participants right now.

To start, you are welcome to add yourself to http://wiki.couchsurfing.com/en/Tech_Team and check the wiki's recent changes. There is a lot of stuff to be worked on, and things might look messy. But you can't break anything, so just go ahead!

Some things we'd like to see:

  • Bug fixing and refactoring
  • Remodelling the CS Groups
  • Remodelling CouchSearch
  • Full site full text search
  • Cascading Style Sheets
  • RSS
  • WordPress integration for blogging
  • AJAX
  • Communication with the CS Groups (Brainstorm, Cockroach)
  • Telephone Surfing (Asterisk and Ruby)
  • Google Maps and Google Earth
  • Instant Messaging, presence, Jabber/XMPP, VoIP
  • IRC
  • email experts: exim tweakers
  • (partly) free hosting!
  • WAP version of the site

Let us know if you feel like working on any of these things, or maybe on something else we didn't think of right now. Please send us your email address and a way to reach you by phone.
