Veneto is a region in North East Italy. Venice, its capital city, is well known for its unique beauty and cultural richness which are also reflected in many towns all over Veneto's mainland. Its geography is vary as the region lays between the Adriatic Sea and the Alps including some breathtaking landscapes. Veneto has experienced a fast industrial development in the latter part of the past century which has sometimes radically transformed its landscape and its social habits. Nonetheless Veneto is still a very beautiful and welcoming part of Italy.

Cities

Veneto Couchsurfing

In July 2008 there are more than 930 CouchSurfers. Veneto has some of the most visited cities of Italy like Venice and Verona as well as some very CS-active cities like Padova.

Meetings

Local meetings are usually held informally once or more times a week in presence of guests of the local members in each of the cities. Typical activities include meeting in the city centers bars to drink spritz, the local cocktail and talk, pizza meetings or dinners at hosts' houses. Other CS/HC events include excursions in the nearby cities with lunch/pic nics or attending at big and not big events in the Veneto area (such as for White nights, free concerts and exhibitions).

Ask your host to keep you updated about local meetings through the local Yahoo! Group [1] or joining the local CS group (Veneto (and the sub-groups of the cities). You can also check the CS Veneto Google Calendar: the local community keeps it updated with all the upcoming events! Also, it might be a good idea to contact one or two active members through CS to know if there is anything going on.

Emergency Couch

You can join the Veneto SOS Couch if you find yourself in an emergency situation like your planned host is not reacheable, the hostel is full, or other similar situations (and not because you can't find a host ahead of time!).

Asking for Hospitality in Veneto

Remember that Couchsurfing is not a free hostel website. That means that you can be ready to sleep in a bed or in a couch or in maitress on the floor. Who knows? But you can be sure that your future host will explaine to you what has to offer to you (if it is not written yet on his profile page). Also, the most of the Veneto's Couchsurfers works, so if you are hosted in midweeks, maybe you have to wake up early in the morning. But, also, you have the possibility to meet the city and the people live there, have parties with them and live unforgettable experiences. This is the Couchsurfing philosophy.

So, before send a request:

  • remember how to write a CouchRequest, there are tips that can help you for choising your host.
  • It's better if you use the Couchsearch! button. Because you can check the profiles and ask at the CouchSurfer who you prefer. And the hosts enjoy more if they are chosen. It's better than leave a message saying: "hi, i'm coming next month. who wants to host me?", because it looks like it doesn't matter who will host you, but it looks like you care only about have a couch.
  • To increase your chances of having a positive answer from hosts, extend your search from the city you want to stay in to some 20-30-40kms with the dedicated feature "Search in a radius of xx km", or give a look to the map and look to the nearest towns. For example, Venice is a very popular city for CSers and expect a really hard time to find a host there: there are just few host available and not everyone hosts every CSer, thus you can search for a host in towns like Padova, Treviso and the smaller ones inbetween.
  • To increase your chances even more, sort the search by "newest accounts" because new members are more eager to host as it will be probably their first or second experience!
  • Obviously, if you are in troubles and you need an emergency couch, try to leave a post to our [Veneto SOS Couch group]. But if you have the time, search for the profile that you like.
