Hey Jim! Thanks for your additions!
I just realized something about Admins: they're mostly from North America, and only 5 languages are spoken at an expert level by them. See Talk:Admins. Guaka 16:32, 27 September 2006 (EST)

About Template:Servers Down
Hi Jim.
The servers down page asks people to add info on not reported outages. How are they going to do that on a protected page? or without the template? what point am I missing?
Maybe we have to change the text on that page, telling people that they cannot report the outages? I changed it when some fellow couchsurfer pointed out the error, and I just wanted to fix it. Now it's back to the not working version.
cheers :) PabloBD 22:35, 29 May 2007 (EDT)----
TOC
- Hi, my name is Scott/aka Severian wiki name. Can you change the TOC to the left side TOC variety or is that just your preference? Wikipedia and most others use left sided TOCs and it's just easier if you could set it that way, instead of using my template {{TOCleft}}. I guess I am just used to it. -- Severian

- I just joined the CS party, and I am on the design team, and I am a wiki lover. I speak German and live in Germany. I'm going to be a first time surfer in about ten days I think...if I can do anything around here, let me know. I am a pretty heavy wiki user over on Uncyclopedia. Thanks! -- Severian

SPAM
Do you have a way of reporting spam to someone who can block a user/IP for making it? This guy
62.215.3.44 (Talk • Contribs • Block (rem-lst-all) • Whois • City • Proxy? • WP Edits) -made a lot of it, and I'm going to get rid of it.-- Severian

- Actually, only members that have signed in can edit the Wiki at this time. Even so, I'll block his IP. Thanks for being on the look out! --RedCouchGuy 12:37, 6 August 2007 (EDT)
changed group membership
Hi Jim, I didn't ask to have my group membership changed from sysop to (none) (see http://wiki.couchsurfing.com/en/Special:Log/rights). Maybe you could explain me what is happening? Thanks a lot! ;-) --Phauly 13:44, 6 August 2007 (EDT)
- No worries, Phauly. I read your talk page about how you think this CS Wiki is ridiculous and that you're moving all of your stuff over to another Wiki so I took the next natural step and changed the Sysop thing. You got me before I could send you a message about it (sorry for the delay!) You're still, of course, welcome to contribute as a member of this Wiki if you like. Thanks! --RedCouchGuy 14:02, 6 August 2007 (EDT)
- I wrote that the management is ridiculous, not the wiki. You could have decided to ask me why I think so and, possibly, to understand why someone thinks differently from you. Maybe in the process you could have also learnt different ways of thinking about a wiki and common knowledge. I feel that this would have been somehow more in the spirit of CS mission "internationally network people and places, create educational exchanges, raise collective consciousness, spread tolerance, and facilitate cultural understanding", "We open our minds and welcome the knowledge that cultural exchange makes available. We create deep and meaningful connections that cross oceans, continents and cultures. CouchSurfing wants to change not only the way we travel, but how we relate to the world!". But you did what you thought was the right thing to do. Anyway a final suggestion: try to find some independent person and ask her how she believes you are running this wiki and the CS community. Really, I write it in the best interest of CS. I wish you the best and I'm sure we will work again together in future. Ciao. --Phauly 14:15, 6 August 2007 (EDT)
- Thanks for your advice, Phauly. I believe that much of this is only temporary. I've been truly surprised by the overwhelming support I've been receiving lately from members all over the place with the action that has been taken so far. Right now I'm trying to stop the bleeding so we can get to a place where things are workable again and I'm taking only a few chances while building better systems. Thanks again and yes, I'd love to find an amicable working environment between us sometime in the future. I'd appreciate it, at least in the meantime, if you didn't continue to try to run off new well-meaning volunteers. Thanks! --RedCouchGuy 14:22, 6 August 2007 (EDT)
- If you are referring to this message ("you will slowly understand how this wiki was managed and how it is managed now. Something can be understood at http://wiki.couchsurfing.com/en/Special:Log/rights --Phauly 13:40, 6 August 2007 (EDT)"), I was simply sharing my doubts with a new contributor of this wiki on the wiki itself. Anyway I do as you appreciate: in the meantime I'll not try to run off new well-meaning volunteers. Thanks! --Phauly 14:28, 6 August 2007 (EDT)
Hey Jim, you removed my rights as well without any discussion. What did I do wrong? Did I change something on this Wiki not to your liking or do you just not like my political views? I don't know you personally, but I know I wouldn't do such a thing to you if the tables were turned. --Tgoorden 14:39, 6 August 2007 (EDT)
- You made two edits on this Wiki in 7 months (not counting the two you made here with this question). --RedCouchGuy 12:36, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
- That's probably true. Did you do this for everyone that is not very active (or simply inactive) on this Wiki or only people associated with OpenCouchSurfing.org? As an aside, I have to say I'm a bit shocked to see you consider it your right to make that decision all by yourself without any type of communication. Maybe you don't see the problem with such arbitrary actions, but I surely do. --Tgoorden 12:48, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
- Yes, the conflict of interest regarding your active affiliation with an anti-CS website was taken into consideration but was not the full reason as I stated already. Thanks for your opinion. --RedCouchGuy 13:35, 7 August 2007 (EDT)

Interviews with CS-Key Members
- Sorry, Jim. I haven't made myself clear enough. I don't mean financial contributions that were made to CS but the contributions that were made to the hyperboards(http://couchsurfing.hyperboards.com/ http://thecouchsurfingbuilding2.hyperboards.com/) in the form of opinions, ideas, discussions, suggestions etc. All those contributions are not there anymore. Where did they went? 06:05, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
- There were lots of "opinions, ideas, discussions, suggestions, ect" on the hyperboards and most (if not all) were read by volunteers. Some were implemented, some are likely still on the "feature" list, ect. Without specific questions about specific things that you are referring to I'm not really able to properly answer this question as a LOT was discussed there. --RedCouchGuy 12:30, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
Template:Welcome
Hi Jim, the Welcome Template is new, if it needs tweaking, then feel free. It's good to surf recent changes, and then hit the people with red linked talk pages. -- Severian

NZ Collective
Hey on the left bar, NZ Collective, can we change it to the Thai Collective...If so, I am looking through the Monobook.js and I can't seem to find it. I might be in the wrong place. -- Severian

- I'm not really sure what you mean. I'm unfamiliar with what Monobook.js contains or is used for. But yes, the Collective link should be changed to a Thai CSC page. However, I don't think that page is created yet, right?--RedCouchGuy 15:21, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
- I found it. I forgot it's part of the MediaWiki software. Monobook.js is the .js javascript that came with the program that makes the page look like it does and says what it says;-) I just made the first page an announcement like the on the webpage. -- Severian

city template
still working on it, should be pretty cool when I'm done --Metal.lunchbox 00:15, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Actually not much I can do without parser functions. Apparently the parser functions extension has not been installed. This is unfortunate becuase you can do alot of stuff with it. Any way you can get someone to install it or install it yourself? --Metal.lunchbox 00:39, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- If you can tell me specifically what you would need in order to get this taken care of I can surely find a way to help. You're doing excellent things here and I'm excited to do what I can to help you do even more so keep me updated as to what you need from my end. Feel free to message me any time if I can assist you with anything else. --RedCouchGuy 19:11, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi Jim!
It's been a long time since the cookies in Nimbin!
I finally got around to creating an account here - I don't expect to be very active, but I do a lot of work on wikis and if you have a specific question, I'll help where I can.
On my userpage I've mentioned Appropedia, and I'm now wanting to do a lot of networking with green & development people who share our passion for knowledge-sharing in this field. Please keep it in mind - I'm sure you meet a huge variety of people, including eco-hippies & such who would love the concept.
Btw I'll be visiting the US in October (maybe arriving in September), and will definitely be couchsurfing. We may cross paths again! And if you happen to have ideas for a free venue for our conference (Currently leaning toward San Francisco, or maybe Boston - see here) please let me know! --Chriswaterguy 14:58, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
