Yo! Just checked into my friendly cs wiki and there was stuff missing from the destinations template and stuff from the Sydney page too, it was done by "klemensmsn.com" - well that's all that appears in the history. In the place of legitimate content was stax of web addresses that were "hidden" from view and only could be found by looking in the edit section. I believe I've fixed the problem for the pages mentioned but not sure how many others have content missing? Even though it's probably a bot can we ban this "klemensmsn.com" or their ISP. Not sure who has the power but you seem to be an authority. Cheers - R! --RAH RAH 05:51, 3 July 2007 (EDT)

Sorry, I have founded this wiki and I know about this problem, but I don't have any authority over the CS Wiki anymore. I'm not even a sysop on it.
Mainly because Casey, the founder and Visionary Leader of CouchSurfing wants to stay in ultimate control over what's happens in CS, and prefers to work with people he can completely trust (mainly Americans, all of them close friends) instead of more people who are more critical and who want to work in a transparent organization. See opencouchsurfing.org for more information.
Obviously other people besides me, who are into using and maintaining wikis have stopped working on this wiki.
I suggest everyone to add free-license to their User page, so that your work can at least be reused in other places. GuakaCS 06:43, 3 July 2007 (EDT)

About announcing this wiki on CS groups

I will do that once we have a bit more in here - first I try to organize people to move important subjects from groups to this wiki so that we have something to start with... Maybe we could/should shut some groups down than. Maybe the bug report group and brainstorm group will be more effective here... But therefore I think we have to have some structure and content first.

Ok, cool. But we should wait a long time though, before shutting down any group. It doesn't hurt to have several ways of doing stuff. It's very easy to link from one to the other. :) Guaka 19:12, 12 August 2006 (EST)

I will invite now the people from the european collective because they want to write down lessons learnd and feedback about what was it about.. so i invite them to edit and add European_CSC_06

moved to CouchSurfing Wiki:Community Portal

Hi Kasper this looks good http://couchsurfing.com/wiki.html a couple of things. Can the text below Welcome to the CouchSurfing Wiki viz "You're probably here.. " be removed is it is a repetition of the home page and this space could be utilised for a more comprehensive TOC.The text "Main Page From CouchSurfing Wiki" could be replaced by Welcome to the CouchSurfing Wiki and also the logo below From CouchSurfing Wiki be removed as its already at the top of the page. P.s the links Jump to: navigation, search are not functional. I also feel the guys from the CSC-E have a lot of valid points on the wiki on this Group thread and this needs to be brainstormed and addressed.I feel the top priority is to have a comprehensive help page to get more participation this should be done before the wiki is publisised further among novice members. Cheers --Navinkurian2002 13:50, 16 August 2006 (EST)

Re your comments

Cheers for the welcome :)

Best would be to go with the licence situation Wikipedia has - GFDL, and allow individual authors to licence their own contributions. I noticed you added that extra thing at the bottom of each article saying who contributed to it - this is nice. (off on a tangent, you may be interested in this work by IBM researchers)

Got the list-of-authors-idea from Wikitravel, whose founder also wrote the code for it :)

I think the best way to keep "Wikitravel stuff" out of this wiki is to ensure nobody adds "Places to see" (and suchlike) sections. Writing a "model" article with headings for meetings, tips, etc stuff would also be a big help to guide the writing. Perhaps someone could create "stubs" for major cities which have all these headings waiting for people to add content. --Calum 13:56, 27 September 2006 (EST)

Ok, good idea. Let's start Template:City Guaka 14:15, 27 September 2006 (EST)
Would it be possible to have an interwiki link on each country page to Wikitravel and to Wikipedia? Perhaps in a toolbox (like how languages works) on the sidebar? Calum 06:51, 29 September 2006 (EST)

Grettings CSer!

Hello! Thank you for the welcome! I loved this idea and I will do whatever possible to help our wiki grow. I'll try to work on the places that I know best and also in some guides and stuff. But one thing I think we really need is a tutorial that explain very simply how you "program" pages in the wiki, and other things that work here such as basic html, cuz for the average user the help page may be a bit scary. I'll be starting a guide for customization of profiles with basic html, I already wrote a simple version for a CS friend in a message, I'll just pass it to the wiki.

Also, the Brazil page you edited... I took sometime to understand that you've put it into a template and still couldn't find it... We could have a short guide on standards for our wiki, how should we put our articles online.

Thank you and count on me for keeping it growing!

questions :)

Hi guaka, are there any projects to have this wiki in other languages than english? are there plans to make some users bibliotecarios like in the spanish wikipedia (those who have the special buttons) =P --PabloBD 01:02, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

Hi, not any real projects yet, but it would be great to have more languages represented. To start just on this wiki, and then to create seperate wikis. I was excited to see the francophone article, so I started a bunch of other pages. Feel free to start Spanish :)
You mean admins? Yeah, it would be good to have some more admins, to combat spam and other stuff that might come up. Do you have any experience with that? At some point we could have some more determined way to arrange this, but at the moment it's just like, if you feel you want to do it, I let you do it! GuakaTalkCS 03:26, 20 October 2006 (EDT)
Hey! your are welcome. thank you for trusting :) I just did what usually do, and I'm not an admin in wikipedia(es) just another wikipedian =P. There were two cases, I did not know to delete or not the articles, so I just droped a question in the talk page. How we should proceed in those cases? --PabloBD 04:20, 22 October 2006 (EDT)
Leaving a message on the Talk page is good for now. We could and probably should set up a page for pages to be deleted though. You're no admin on Wikipedia, but I had the idea you were an experienced editor, and we simply need some more admins here :) GuakaTalkCS 15:29, 22 October 2006 (EDT)

Have you seen this? The same guy. I was just going to block him, but he changed IP, twice. I guess he does not represent the 99% of the CSers. --PabloBD 17:13, 25 October 2006 (EDT)

Just seen it now. I'm glad we have other admins besides who can deal with this! It's okay. It's hard to say if it's actually a "vandal" though. :) GuakaTalkCS 02:44, 27 October 2006 (EDT)

I would say this was/is intentional vandalism with a clear goal in mind (repeated IP address changes seem to speak for this) - unfortunately seemed to reach it too :( But let's see how things fold out. Anu 11:15, 1 November 2006 (EST)

I'm thinking the english/spanish templates work for 2 lenguages, but what if we had 5 or 6 or 20 diffrent lenguages? --PabloBD 15:14, 5 November 2006 (EST)
There is another solution, like in Wikipedia and Wikitravel, using es:articulo, which can still be on the same wiki as long as there is no other language wiki set up. At some point we'll create a Spanish CouchSurfing Wiki though :) GuakaTalkCS 23:07, 6 November 2006 (EST)

Be aware about your logo

just a hint, i personaly doesnt bother: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Wiki.png

You mean the copyrights and trademarks? Yeah, I am aware of it. I think we can get permission to use it. I sent an email to the lawyer of the Wikimedia Foundation. Didn't get a reply yet. I could personally ask Jimbo.
Otherwise, it'd be great if someone can make a nice logo that's not encumbered with copyright or trademark problems :) GuakaTalkCS 22:29, 8 November 2006 (EST)

:couchsurfing: links to www1

CS profile at the NZC-page makes a link to www1.couchsurfing... - but I think a "www" without "1" is needed`!? midschCS 18:17, 14 November 2006 (EST)

Yeah, ideally yes, but some servers don't support that linking style - yet. It has been reported in the Bug Tracker and we'll probably fix it soon. To avoid weirdness, I decided to just have it always link to www1 for now. :) GuakaTalkCS 18:25, 14 November 2006 (EST)

CONGRATULATIONS & THANKS FOR MAKING THIS CS-WIKI!!! GREETINGS FROM BERLIN

You really have a nice view from your house in Nelson. I would like to be there, but it is not possible for me at the moment. So I will follow the developments online.

May be we can organize a similar collective in Berlin in springtime 2007 (May be before, during or after the BERLIN HC/CS-BEACHCAMP 2007?).

First a technical question: The E-mail Authentification didn't work; I didn't get the Authentification E-mail. Do you send it manually, that it will take several days? Or is there a mistake in the Wiki-Code?

Greetings from Berlin

--BRAINSTORM 13:17, 17 November 2006 (EST)

Hi! Thanks! :) Many people have plans for organizing Collectives in Europe next year. I don't know if there is any coordination. My best bet at the moment would be to try to contact Nick Casias and Elsa.
The E-mail authentifcation might have been considered spam by your spamfilter. I have to look into that.
But I'm also working on an integration of CS with MediaWiki where CS users are automatically logged in (and their email address verified). :) Tschüss, GuakaTalkCS 01:39, 18 November 2006 (EST)

It wasn't the spamfilter; I have checked this before. Do you know, if other users had the same problem?

--BRAINSTORM 15:18, 18 November 2006 (EST)

Hi! Great idea. All I know for now is that there is a proposal to have a collective in Paris, that Nick was thinking about Barcelona because the community is not as developped (and that life is less expensive), and that there was a proposal for Finland. We haven't been talking it too much yet, but we might find a way to have several collectives at the same time. Ok, time for coordination. I'll see ow to create a wiki page to coordinate future collectives and get back to you. Awesome idea! I hope it happens...

Weird

So I was looking at Special:Uncategorizedpages as usual and I found CS Magazine What is a couch? appears as un categorized when it has indeed categories. I think it has something to do with the question mark, because in the categories, it appears without it. Any Clue? --PabloBD 10:51, 28 November 2006 (EST)

Yeah, I saw that too. We shouldn't have articles with question marks.

Sorting is fun

can we add sorting to tables on the wiki. its easy and only moderately useful but boy is it fun to sort in accending then descending then ascending order. I can't think of a single real use for it right now on the wiki but to paraphrase on old saying if you build it, people will come and very quickly convince themselves that they need it and have difficulty imagining life without it. Wiki help/instructions for new folks

Hi- I really like the idea of this Wiki, especially since it's in its beginning stages and looks like there is a lot to be done and lots of opportunities to participate. Here's my problem though- aside from the VERY random, occasional mini-edit made on wikipedia in the past, I have no experience whatsoever with a Wiki. I do lots of design work for my job, so I do understand HTML and can usually figure out simple programming if I have a guide to follow, but I don't think there is enough of a help section available here yet. I have seen the links to the Wikipedia pages explaining wiki syntax, but they are a bit advanced and I can especially see non-tech people being scared away by them. I myself started to set up a user page but was only able to figure it out by copying someone else's and changing the info. It took quite some time before I understood that there is a template somewhere (where?) that was being filled in with my info.

Would it be possible to start a step-by-step section for new wiki arrivals with things like clear, simple instructions about starting a user profile and starting new pages. The instructions for modifying existing pages seem pretty clear, but not for starting from scratch. Is it possible for new users to create templates or only Admins can do this? How do you make a template? Is there a way to block parts of your user page that you wouldn't want modified, or is every last detail open to public modification?

I'd be happy to help on developing a new help section for the Wiki- once i figure out how to write it! Haha! KritalyTalkCS

A step-by-step section for new wiki arrivals would be great! But I'm probably not the best person to work on that :)
Anyone can create templates. Just use new template will show up as Template:New template and then you can click on it and create it.
You could create a template for your user page, and then a sysop can protect it. But you won't be able to change it yourself anymore. So I don't recommend it. GuakaCS 16:43, 5 January 2007 (EST)

Do you know how to protect this page?

It seems spam bots target this page (mainly). Could we simply keep it with a "Nothing here" sentence and protect it from editing by everyone? I tried but i didn't succeed

The targeted page http://wiki.couchsurfing.com/en/En/CouchSurfingForum/wiki/index.php

I've done some work on the wiki spam just now. It should be better from now on. And, all the spam that still comes in should just be chongqed :) GuakaCS 01:20, 2 March 2007 (EST)

GoogleCalendar XSS problem

Hi - your GoogleCalendar is vulnerable to JavaScript injection - use htmlspecialchars($input) when generating HTML to avoid this.

Try this:

<googlecalendar>" style="display  : none;"></iframe><script>alert("Yumm, cookies! " + document.cookie);</script><iframe src="http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=g43t277um81su1tjvgvah609qk%40group.calendar.google.com&pvttk=db8cdde758254dbe5a511723cac5da46</googlecalendar>

Hi, your GoogleCalendar extension has a problem where the extra features(eg &chrome=NAVIGATION) are ignored. I think its because the & query strings become replaced with &amp; 's. All of the extra features separated by &'s get ignored. Bouncingmolar 21:38, 16 June 2007 (EDT)
