General

  • If the world is at its end, it does not mean Switzerland is. Swiss people think of themselves that they are not part of it.
  • Be sure that you clearly mark jokes in a conversation. Ironic or black humor is nothing Swiss people will understand.
  • Swiss people do not laugh about Swiss jokes. Replace Swiss with Austrian if you'd like to tell one.


Recycling

Recycling is very important to us. Please do not throw the garbage in the wrong bins, and, of course do not litter. We recycle alot and we do take it seriously, dont laugh (we admitt, some things are ridiculous)

  • PET bottles: please use the pet bins (usually big and colorful bins or inside the supermarked there is a special just for that
  • Please dispose these things to the designated containers, usually found in large supermarkets
    • Carton
    • Paper
    • Batteries
    • at some places even plastic
  • Glass and cans: Bring back glass and can items to designated containers IN THE STREET. Ask a local for the nearest one. Usually these blue containers are gathered in a circle and placed in the living area.

If you want to do a nice favour for your host, help to get rid of all the recyclable goods at his home. Its quite unusual, yes, but he will absolutely love you! Its quite time consuming, and people always tend to postpone it.
