Tromsø
From the CouchSurfing Wiki, an informal workspace which anyone can edit.
Tromsø is a little island oasis in Northern Norway. There are only about 50,000 inhabitants in Tromsø, but 10,000 of them are students. This makes for great night life, lots of activity, and a large international community. The university in Tromsø is a great place to study linguistics, fishery science, peace and conflict studies, indigenous studies, and medicine. Some master and PhD programs are taught in English.
Tromsø is an amazing place to see the Northern Lights which are out frequently between October and March. Tromsø also lies above the Arctic Circle so there is 24 hours of darkness between mid-November and mid-January and 24 hours of sunlight between mid-May and mid-July. This type of living condition seems to attract interesting, unique, and slightly crazy people (in a good way).
The CS community in Tromsø is quickly growing. If people can make it this far north, they should not have a problem finding a place to sleep. Finding cash-in-hand jobs or cheap food and drinks however is another story.
People can most cheaply travel to Tromsø with Norwegian airlines. The Hurtigruten boat is also a unique and beautiful way to arrive in Tromsø.
Pls update Tromsø pages with as much relevant information as possible
