Sometime, somewhere, you would have read this saying on a t-shirt: "Born at Bells, 1969." That's the sometimes-motto of surf brand, Rip Curl. The brand was indeed born at Bells, which is a beach near Torquay on Victoria's Surf Coast.

But the Surf Coast has way more to it than t-shirts. The beaches spread far and wide, from the relatively calm Ocean Grove to the wild waves down near Cape Otway. Many Melburnians dearly love this part of the coast and every summer, the beaches fill to insane numbers of bodies, with the smell of suncream and the sound of beach cricket.

There are plenty of lovely fishing villages here that have recently taken a more resort-like route: Lorne, Apollo Bay, Barwon Heads and indeed Torquay all included. But nonetheless, the charm still remains. Eating a battered flake that's been caught earlier that day, while watching a sunset creep across the ocean, is indeed one of life's great experiences.
