Great general idea!!! One suggestion: you should make it clear who the "crew of four " is composed by. You could even try to get some coverage by the local televisions of the place you visit in order to spread the ideals of couchsurfing also at the local level.

There should also be another way to raise funds for CouchSurfing while on the way, something creative and funny, but at the moment I'm without ideas ;-) --Phauly 12:34, 20 September 2006 (EST)

Another possibility is that, if the idea starts to get some attention, more groups can start from other places: for example, there could be a group moving from Africa, one from Asia, one from Oceania, one from South America, one from North America, onr from Europe, with the final goal of meeting all together in one place. Just an Idea but it could be a powerful message as well. --Phauly 12:39, 20 September 2006 (EST)

Of course, there should be some integration with maps, in order to show where our lovely crew is at the moment and where we could move it. --Phauly 12:39, 20 September 2006 (EST)

The idea reminded me of a television program (or maybe it was an augmented reality game, I don't remember) in which the public could decide on the characters of the show or of the game (what they will do, where they will go, ...). Of course, UProduce wants to be something very different from a reality TV program but it might be worth understanding how other people could perceive UProduce and prevent possible misunderstandings. Unfortunately I was not able to remember the name of he show or of the game or anything. Well, I think I'm just wikibrainstorming, but this is because I found the idea simple and genial! ;-) --Phauly 12:56, 20 September 2006 (EST)

Ok, I found one such TV program but I think there are much more "You Control Contestants' Reality" http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,41615,00.html

"It does imply that you can't use most existing music (besides music under the CC BY-NC-SA). "

I think this is not true. You can use all the music that you can use in general independently of how you release your video. For example, you can use all the music under the CC BY. And, independently of how you release your videos, you cannot use, for example, music of Madonna, simply because you are going to distribute it on the Web.

Great ideas

Hey Phauly, I think that contacting the local T.V. companies is a great idea and I think that we'll implement it. Also as far as earning money that would be creative and funny in each location we are going to add that as an aspect of the wiki page that will be created each week. I made that update somewhere in the UProduce section. Also we love the idea of open source licenses. Thanks for the tips on what they are called. I will do some more research into that. When I say that CS will own the rights I ment only to insure that it remains free and available. We would love to partner up with Current T.V. but not at the expense that we would lose the ability to have the video files be open license. Thanks for the input. We love it. Eric Wootton

Suggestion for January 1

I'm a couchsurfing friend of Julienne. When we met in Montréal in June, she asked me what there is to see in Philadelphia near where I had just been living. Usually people think about the Liberty Bell, etc., but by far the most interesting thing to see in Philadelphia, in my opinion, is the Mummers Parade held on January 1. It is by far the most interesting and enjoyable parade I have ever seen, and I would travel far (I no longer live there) just to see it again. The Mummers tradition dates back to 400 B.C. and was brought to the Philadelphia area by European immigrants.

There are about 15,000 participants in the parade and many of them prepare all year for it. There is a very down-to-earth, local and often ethnic feel to it and it is very creative, elaborate and artistic, with several different categories of competition throughout the day.

Julienne thought that she would like to see this parade someday. I thought she would really enjoy it, given her artistic inclinations and her interest in diverse cultures. When I read that you planned to begin your odyssey in New York on January 1 at Ground Zero, it occurred to me that the parade might make a good first destination for you.

Your journey will have a somber start, given the starting location. And even though the tragedy that happened there was primarily an American tragedy, it affected the whole world. It might be fitting, after paying your respects in the morning, to travel two hours to Philadelphia (there are frequent buses) in the afternoon to be part of an American celebration with international roots.

The parade lasts into the evening. There have been 22 weather-related postponements since 1922. You can learn more at mummers.com.

Discussion

Love it, Love it, Love it, quick grammatical point, this sentance...We would love it if there 'where twenty or even fifty teams travelling the world in the name of our organization and cause.

This is the incorrect use of Where, Were and We're, you should replace the word " where' with were. I believe Where is an adverb, as in Where is the next couch you will be placing on couchsurfing.com??

Anyway, I really love your energy and creativity.

Best Wishes

Hey Matt, Thanks for the spelling tip. I have made the change. Just remember that it's a wiki! So from now on when anyone sees a spelling error feel free to hit the edit button and change ip! :) - Eric Wootton

One of the possible risk is that UProduce will reflect mainly or only the mentality of people of North America or Europe. It would be great to have someone from Africa, someone from Asia, someone from South America in the crew as well, or maybe to have another crew starting in a different place, for example in Ghana. I'm not at all sure but I guess there should be some international organization willing to finance such an idea, involving some of their local partners already involved in local development. --Phauly 12:45, 20 September 2006 (EST)

Do-ocracy

Hey Phauly, I understand that you didn't realize it at the time that you posted because I hadn't put stuff up about the crew. But now if you look in that section you will see that out of the two main characters one is from the U.S. and the other is from South Africa. As far as forming up other groups around the world we think that that is a great idea and would fully support you in doing that if you so choose. We are maxing out our resources right now just trying to create our team. So, great idea on forming international teams, if you want to do it we are behind you. i love do-ocracy! About international teams, I'm trying to see if I can find some friends to start from different part of Europe but at the moment it is very unlikely but I'll keep you updated. --Phauly 07:00, 29 October 2006 (EST)
