Making Help, Logout, Search stand out
In the topnav: Help, Logout and Search should stand out. And, I really really like it! GuakaTalkCS 20:23, 12 December 2006 (EST)
- Cool. Making part of the nav stand out is a matter of styling. This proposal only addresses content. I like the idea, but that should be discussed separately. --Mattthew 21:38, 12 December 2006 (EST)
Notes/Contactlist
[ed: regarding profile page] Ok. One minor thing: it seems that Contact list and notes are basically the same thing. I think there should only be one button. But what do we call it? GuakaTalkCS 01:22, 13 December 2006 (EST)
- I vote for NOTES --Bontour 19:09, 14 December 2006 (EST)
Use of space, Less/More
I'm interested to see how the profile page will look when filled out with this re-organization. I agree that the important things are placed in the right places, but I'm curious to see how it will look when everything is all filled out (size/space -wise). There's a huge empty column on the left, and important things, like references on the right will be alllll the way down at the bottom... maybe we should keep friends list on the left side? amylin
- I agree that it's inefficient use of space to have one column filled with stuff and the other one empty. We shouldn't move things from one side to the other based on length of page. We should strive to keep the "our stuff" "my stuff" division, and friends is clearly "my stuff". We could also use very simple javascript to load sections with some info partially hidden, and in put a button in that expands the section to full size without reloading the page. --Mattthew 21:06, 14 December 2006 (EST)
Wow, looks amazing guys. I have two things I would like to see a little different. In my home, I would like to see nearby meetings more towards the top since meetings are a great way to get involved. The second is just seconding Amylins notion that references should be closer to the top since we rely on them so heavily for judgment: of character. Just my two cents. hungrysteve 22:35, 12 December 2006
- Ideally, position of sections on the "my stuff" column could be user controlled by preferences. Before adding that new programming, I suggest creating a user-interface guideline for how the sections are positioned. In other words, what's an argument for putting meetings on top that can also apply to the order of everything on the page and the order of other pages? I definitely agree that "meetings in your area" should be as high or higher than "nearby travelers". As for profile references, I could see them being higher than friends for sure. But when I couchsearch, I first want to form my own opinion based on the member's self description before reading references. Certainly debatable. --Mattthew 21:06, 14 December 2006 (EST)
Hi, I just modified the page - hope that's ok - would love to have the less/more option on all information blocks because it will give people more flexibility to adjust what they like to see (always with a minimum of one item per section) - please feel free to make this more clear what I mean :) 1 in the morning and my Bangladesh CS - guest is already sleeping so I had to type silent *hehehe, I'm off to bed - GREAT WORK GIRLS AND GUYS - HUGS FROM VIENNA, --Bontour 19:09, 14 December 2006 (EST)
- These seem like great edits to me.--Mattthew 21:06, 14 December 2006 (EST)
Font size of the article navigation
Somehow the navigation text of this article is a lot smaller. Any idea how this happened? GuakaTalkCS 21:23, 16 December 2006 (EST)
Word length consideration
Just a minor thing that I believe you (or we) guys should keep in mind. Once the nav system gets translated into other languages, the actual length of the words/links might change. Some languages have by average longer words than english, creating thus an ungly result. I'm experiencing this situation with the greek translation: the nav bars are getting wayyyyy too wide. It would be nice if we could have a consistent and equally pretty interface regardless word lenght. (I know this is mostly an CSS/stylign issue, just thought I should present my thought at the planning stages) --Charisis, 10:20, 17 December 2006 (EST)
Let's Go!
The topnav stuff seems urgent to me. I like your scheme and could change the site's navigation in an hour. And I want to, because I know the current scheme is confusing to new users and keeps people from using the site.
So would someone contact me about how to transition, and whether you think I should just go for it? JoeEdelman 16:11, 17 December 2006 (EST)
I don't know how to transition, but: go for it Joe! --BeitoTalk CS 19:32, 18 December 2006 (EST)
