Talk:NZC scratchpad
From the CouchSurfing Wiki, an informal workspace which anyone can edit.
I gather that it is considered a problem that the org. structure is not open. However, WHY is it not open? I don't know but I can only guess... In the group structure, certain groups tended to get over crowded with too many people who might perhaps read (half) a thread and post a response, which might actually have been posted by other members before. They would be posting, just to be seen. I guess that by restricting the org. groups we make sure that only the people who are dedicated will take the effort of writing a message to the group moderator explaining why they would like to join. Of course this leaves the question who should be the moderators, who checks that they are fair in admitting and denying entrance. These are fair questions, which should be addressed, but don't forget that not too long ago, there was hardly any transparancy. Before the first Collective it seemed like all decisions were made by some kinda secret and select group (Casey+Admins+Buddies?). I believe that CouchSurfing should be open, but I also believe in (auto) selection. Having 120.000+ people debating every issue will not get work done better or faster. In this light I think it is perfectly fair and valid to ask from people to explain why they would wish to be involved in that particular branch of the org. structure. This barrier might just prevent b*llsh#t talkers from joining, resulting in a better and more effective way to keep CS going.
