Strasbourg is one of the cultural heart of Alsace… There are plenty things to do !!

restaurants (quite expensive…) and buildings of the XIV-XV centuries…
- The European institutions.
- Church of "St Pierre le Jeune", rue de la Nuée Bleue, here you can find a very little and nice convent. A very quiet and beautiful place
Make a tour along quays, stop you, drink a small beer at the edge of the water!
See the walls of Strasbourg, we have some people who make street art!!! (maybe you will see a "karton" from Mr karton : http://www.myspace.com/fais_tes_cartons )

And between 1st September and 30th June, you can all the week go in the CAJ Molodoï, it's a very good place where you can dance, drink beer, listen to very good music (electro, rock, noise, ska, reggae, dub...), sometimes look at good videos in the same time and meet a lot of alternative people of Strasbourg : http://www.molodoi.net/ , and the prices are very low (2 or 1.5€ for a beer, and entry: the best is free price--> you give what you want, and the high is 8€)

Tips
The center of the town is located in the inner island, but the railroad station neighborhood and the Krutenau area are also very popular places to be. If you don't have a car, you might want to avoid the Robertsau area wich is not well linked to center with common transports. If you couchsurf in the suburbs, the most easier way to move is using the tramway. You can find a transportation map here. If you couchsurf in the center, or railroad station area, or Krutenau, you won't need any transportation. Strasbourg town center isn't that big. However, a cheap bike rent might be a good idea.
You can find free hot spots in theses areas:
- L'Artichaut, a nice afternoon and evening bar, 56 grand rue. The hotspot is un unsecured one displayed as "Thomson".
- Jeannette & les cycleux, a nice evening place too, rue de l'épine. They have a secured (password protected) wifi hotspot, free if you buy drinks or sandwiches from them.
- Café Brandt, place de l'Université. They also provide a hotspot for their customers.
Need a place to eat ?
Here are some Alsatian food recommandations (not so cheap, but price worth it):
- Restaurant Au Coin des Pucelles, 12 rue des Pucelles, +33 3 88 35 35 14. Awesome food, small place, you need to book before going there to be sure there's room for you. Prices are ok (you get out with roughtly 40€ per person wine included). If you're really hungry, ask for the entrecote with bones.
- A La Tête De Lard, 3 rue Hannong, +33 3 88 32 13 56. Good local food and reasonnable prices.
[[ Some Vegan or Vegetarian restaurants:]]
- "Poêles de Carottes" , very good food, not so expensive but french prices (you know...) You can have a good menu for 17€ : their website:[1] And my personal recommendation: le gratin trois légumes à la crème!!
- "Au potiron" , 24, rue Sainte Madeleine - 03 88 35 49 86, 15-30€
-"Bistrot et chocolat", 8, rue de la Rape - 03 88 36 39 60, 15-30€ For people who love chocolate!!!
