The Randstad is the largest metropolitan area in the Netherlands, and one of the largest in Europe. It is located in the central/west part of the country. It has about 7,1 million inhabitants, although this is hard to define as the Randstad is not geographically defined. The Randstad has a dense railway network. The larger cities often have over 5 train stations, and numerous local transport networks.
Approximate travel times by train:
- Amsterdam - Rotterdam : 1 hour
- Amsterdam - Utrecht : 30 minutes
- Amsterdam - The Hague : 45 minutes
- The Hague - Utrecht : 45 minutes
- The Hague - Rotterdam : 20 minutes
Driving in the Randstad during rush hours is discouraged as there are a lot of traffic jams. Public transport will usually get you around quicker
