RSS feeds

RSS feeds allow people to stay updated without actually going to CouchSurfing. It is a common and according to many people essential feature of blogs. Implementing RSS feeds for groups would be practical for many people. For a Couch planning service it would be very practical as well, to see who will be around when.

RSS feeds for Information such as last login, recent logins, current mission, and couch status could be easily syndicated to other sites, allowing users to integrate couchsurfing into thier life more easily and also spread the word.

Another idea would be to provide to every user a badge that she can easily insert into her blog (or site), basically CS site could say "insert the following HTML in your blog text for displaying on your blog a badge such as this one [preview]". Somthing like this blog badge but personalized, showing your nick, number of connections, ... This comment is not strictly related to RSS but I got the idea when you said about "allowing users to integrate couchsurfing into ..." and "spread the word". Feel free to move it around in another page of course. --Phauly 15:03, 2 September 2006 (EST)

Possible RSS feeds

  • RSS feeds for news
  • RSS feeds for news in a single group
  • RSS feeds for "recently created users"
  • RSS feeds for "recently created users" in your location at different distance values (for example, you might like to know the newly registered users in your country in order to welcome them or meet them)
  • RSS feeds for "new results for a certain search" (for example, you might want to be alerted when someone with certain characteristics move to a certain place or create a user. Think of it as periodic searches you want to be kept updated about)
  • RSS feeds for a new CS user in my city (living or travelling) (this is a specialisation of above case)
  • RSS feeds for all friends (where is John?)
  • RSS feeds for all logins of a CS user (is it a specialisation of above item ?)
  • RSS feeds for new references on your profile
