A brief introduction

Porto Sant'Elpidio is a town of 24,415 inhabitants (2007), in the region of Marche and in the province of Ascoli Piceno. It is part of the 40 municipalities that in 2009 will become part of the new province of Fermo.

The history of Porto Sant'Elpidio is relatively short. The country has remained relatively small until 1952, when it obtained independence from municipal Sant'Elpidio a Mare. With the development of the footwear industry, then in following years there was a noticeable population increase.

Except some historic villas, houses of ancient noble families, the city has no sites or monuments of interest to tourists. The biggest tourist attraction, for this reason, is the sea, and the beach: its nearly 8 km of coastline, make Porto Sant'Elpidio the largest municipality in length in the province of Ascoli Piceno. Along the coastline, recently, have been built several tourist facilities.
