Oldenburg is a German city in Lower Saxony.
General Information Oldenburg is a town with about 150.000 inhabitants, located in the north west of Germany. Is it easy reached by public transport (Train) from Bremen. Oldenburg is both near to the Netherlands (Groningen) and the North Sea. There is a big university and some nightlife (but not as much as in Bremen and Hamburg). You can use Oldenburg as a good stopover point if hitchhiking from Bremen/Hamburg to Groningen. For further Information about the town see: Oldenburg official city Information
Activities Oldenburg is not a very busy town but there a few things to do. You can visit the North Sea and its famous tidal areas (the Waddensea). In Oldenburg itself is a very nice park to relax in the sun (if it is sunny ...). The university has some good small cinema (Gegenlicht, a theater program and sometimes small music gigs. And of course you will find the "normal" city stuff like cinemas, shopping, museums etc.
Night Life There a lot of different Bars in the city. You just have to walk into any small street and you will find a bar. I highly recommend the "Polyester", a nice and friendly sixties-style club with good music and nice people (located near the "Pferdemarkt", street: "Am Stadtmuseum 15"). There are also some dancing clubs (Metro, Amadeus, Cubes. If you need more information, you find two really good city guides available for free in shops, cafes... (Diabolo,Mox, Stadtpark
Alternative Lifestyle The Alhambra is a alternative non-racist and non-fascist center with a broad range program of politics, information, concerts, partys etc.
