Norwich is an old city in England, with many buildings from the Middle Ages. It was rich at that time, from the sale of wool from sheep. It was even the capital of Britain for a short time. Later, it became poorer, but has recently had a rennaissance and is now a big shopping destination as well as a holiday centre.

It used to be said that 'Norwich has a pub for every day of the year, and a church for every Sunday'. Perhaps not quite true now, but you can have a lot of fun checking!

Couch information

There are a lot of students in Norwich, also many people who live alternative lifestyles.

Guides

Norwich [1]

Visit Dragon Hall (mediaeval house) [2]

Visit the market [3]

Walk around the university (some people love the concrete, others hate it) [4][5]

The Tourist Information Centre [6] is always useful - you can pick up leaflets about different places and events, and they have an accommodation list if you haven't found a couch to surf.

Transportation

Rail: good link to London, reasonable to Cambridge, Ely, Yarmouth, Peterborough. [7]

Air: airport has some cheap flight destinations [8]. Easy to get to/from Stansted/Heathrow/Gatwick on the airport coach [9].

Road: buses are pretty good in the city, less so further away. [10]
