Things to see and do
First, Boso-no-Mura Museum is a must-see, where ancient tombs and a village forest are preserved. Moreover, there is a street of merchant households, old samurai residences, and farm houses from the Edo era to the Meiji era. Visitors learn Japanese history, culture and traditional handicrafts though exhibitions or experiences. For example, people can dress like a samurai, join in a real tea ceremony and soak up Japanese traditional old-good time lifestyle. It can be reached by bus from the JR Narita Station about 20 minutes to the Ryokakujidai-2chome and then an 8-minute walk.
Second, a Buddhist temple, Narita-san Shinshoji built in 940 is a 15-minute walk from the JR Narita Station. It is one of the most important temple buildings in Japan. A statue of Fudo-myoo God (the God of Fire) in the main hall is great to see, and monks hold the rituals in front of it. In addition, along the busy street up to the temple from the station are many kinds of restaurants, souvenir shops, stores selling good traditional handicrafts, foods and clothes.
When to visit
It is a perfect city to visit anytime, but, particularly during Narita Gion Festival in July, ten floats go around the town and along the main pathway to the temple. It has a history of 300 years, and about 400,000 tourists come.
Access
Both JR and Keisei trains connect Narita International Airport to Narita City. It takes about 10 minutes and costs 230-250 yen.
