Activities around Nelson

Kaikoura

A stunningly beautiful seaside town on the east coast approx half-way between Blenheim and Christchurch.

Beautiful crescent-shaped bay right in town, great for swimming. Fantastic place for beachcombing.

Just north of town the mountains literally meet the sea.

Good surfing – point breaks and reef breaks. Two surf shops in town.

The most beautiful Maori marae in NZ (in the opinion of Luna1) with fantastic view over the ocean and rich in contemporary Maori art – especially the huge colourful carvings of Dr Cliff Whiting.

There are many commercial tours operating eg ‘Swim with Seals’, ‘Swim with Dolphins’, ‘Whale Watch Tours’, "Kayak with Seals'.

Highly recommended is a trip with Kaikoura Kayaks - 0800 452 456 for bookings and info.
