Maceió (Mah-say-'oh) is the capital and the largest city of the coastal state Alagoas in Brazil.

Maceio - Origins

Indigenes Tupi called MACA-YO or MACAI-O-K, that means what covers the swamp. The first population settle around a sugar cane usine around 1800’s. The city started to develop when the ships started to port at Jaragua’s region.
