Meetings

Haven't been any yet, but we hope to arrange some sort of "get together" sometime in the near future. We are working on it, and hopefully, we will be able to arrange weekly or monthly meetings in the future.

If you are traveling in the area, don't hesitate to contact members of The Kristiansand group if you want to get together with the locals.

Tips

The Official Visitor Guide A good tip would be to check out this website before you visit Kristiansand. That way, you are better prepared when you arrive, and can spend your precious time in town more wisely.

If you can't find any accommodation in the city of Kristiansand, try to find hosts elsewhere in Vest-Agder or Aust-Agder. There is a lot of beautiful people and places outside the city as well.

If you are visiting Kristiansand in the summer season, it will be wise of you to apply for a couch in good time before you arrive. Especially the one week during the Quart festival, which usually is in the beginning of July, it's very hard to find accommodation in town.

Transportation

The only public transportation that takes you around in town, is the "Metro buses". These buses are local, and a ticket on the metro buses costs between 10-30 NOK, depending on the distance. There is also a lot of regional and long distance bus connections, e.g to Oslo.

Taxi is pretty expensive, but they offer very good service, and use taxameters so that you can watch the costs. There is also a train station in Kristiansand, with connections to Stavanger and Oslo, anda harbor with ferries to Denmark. The airport is called "Kjevik airport", and is placed in the outskirts of town.

CouchSurfers

There is about 30 Couch surfers in Kristiansand. The Kristiansand group has 39 members at the moment, but it has been inactive ever since it was started. Therefore, CS ambassadors in Norway are currently working on "reviving" the CS society in Kristiansand. Hopefully, this will lead to many more active members and more group activity in the future.

What to See

Kristiansand Zoo is the biggest zoo in Norway, and is open all year around. They have many different kinds of animals, from lions and tigers to snakes and lizards. It's placed in the outskirts of town, but the local buses go there quite often, especially in the summer season.

In the middle of the city center, lies the main street "Markens Gate". This is a very cosy part of town, surrounded by shops of all kinds, and a lot of nice pubs, cafés, and restaurants. From May to September there is also a lot of flowers and decorations placed around the city center. Regardless of what you want to do, shopping or relaxing, "Markens" has got it all.

There is a lot of nice green areas, and neat little parks spread around the town, with fountains, sculptures and benches. One of them is "Otterdalsparken", with a nice fountain, granite sculptures and a guest harbor.
