This page is intended as a Couchsurfing Travel Guide written by Jujuy locals for Visitors. This page is under constant development.

Currency

The local currency is the argentine peso and its denomination is the centavo. Currently (July 2009) the rate is about 3,80 pesos to the US dollar and 5,25 pesos to the Euro. You can always check out the correct rate at http://www.xe.com. All prices in Jujuy (and the rest of Argentina) are marked with the dollar ($) symbol, wich means argentine pesos. If the prices refers to US dollars, it will be marked as U$D. In other words: $50 = 50 argentine pesos, and U$D50 = 50 US dollars

Getting to Jujuy

By car: There are X main access points ....... On National Route No. 9: entered into the city by Av.

By Bus: There are several companies that reach the bus terminal, among them are La Veloz del Norte, Balut, Flecha Bus. For more information, please consult the website Plataforma10

By Air: Aerolineas Argentinas, Lan?, Andes Lineas Aereas? and AEROSUR?

By Train: If you came from Buenos Aires, can take the train to Tucuman and then, from Tucuman take a bus to Jujuy.

Public transportation

Public buses cost S1.25 per travel, and you need to pay the exact amount with coins.

Public buses also take you to the "Potrero de Yala Provincial Natural Park", for approximately $ 2.50.

With taxis, and by $ 3 to 5 they take you almost anywhere.

Where to sleep

In the city there are many places where you can host.


If you are taking a fast trip around the area...

If you have around 9 days you could visit the following places (this is a xtreme fast version, since all the places are beautiful and different from eachother):

JUJUY

Purmamarca y Tilcara.. 1 day

Humahuaca-Iruya ...... 2 days (You go to Iruya from humahuaca for one day and come bak to humahuaca on the folowing day).


If you look for something not as fast, you could try the folowing itinerary:


- Purmamarca y Tilcara... 1 day

- Humahuaca ............. 1 day

- Iruya ................. 2 days

To do so, you might consider getting together with 3 or 4 CSrs and rent a car.

Where to eat

- Traditional Food: in "Locoto" at xx Street, you can enjoy an exquisite Locro, humitas, tamales.

-Delicious Empanadas: meat, chicken and cheese, in "Xibi-Xibi", XX Street.

- A great Asado: in "" at (something like $ 45).
