Things To Do On Jeju

Here is a governement site with tour ideas for each end of the island. This site is available in Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, German, and two other languages.

This is a decent tourist map. It has the old highway numbers on it. Be sure to pick up a new map at the airport or any tourist info booth.

Here is a home made map I made of Shin Jeju to get to La Vie and Modern Times.

Jeju Olle (Walking trails)

Jeju Olle currently consists of 13 walking trails from the east, down the south, ending at the west coast of Jeju. The first trail opened in September of 2007. Jeju Olle was started by Jeju native, Suh, Myungsook, after she walked the road to Santiago the previous year. These are a great way of seeing the "real" Jeju. The 13th trail just opened on Udo in May 2009.

Accessible by Jeju City busses

Hamdeok Beach

- A favourite among foreigners and locals alike. This fabulous beach is one of the last stops for bus #20. You can catch this bus at Sin Jeju Emart, the bus terminal, or City Hall. - Once at the beach, keep walking and you will come to a smaller more private beach. Next to the smaller beach is a small hill to climb. It will take about 10 minutes to walk up it and there is a gorgeous view to behold!

Halla Arboretum

- If you are in Shin Jeju you can walk here. Go to E-mart and walk straight up the hill for 20 minutes, you will see the sign to turn left, another 5 minutes and you are here. This is a gorgeous little walk and it is free! *bonus for those who are actually taking the time to read this page* at the left turn to the arboretum... look to your right and you will see a small little white restaurant. This is Yeon-woo-nae. This is my favourite restaurant in Jeju, it is a "wellness" restaurant. I recommend the su-jae-bee for a nice hot (NOT spicy) green tea noodle soup or the bi-bim-bap, it is SOOO fresh!

East Side of the Island

ManJangGul (Manjang Cave) UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site

- This is on the way to Sun Rise Peak. Remember to pack a warm top for your time inside.

SeongSanIlChulBong (Sunsrise Peak) UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site

- You will want to spend the night in a minbak (motel) near the base of the crater. The person working will let you know what time you must start walking up. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to the top. Watch the sunrise. Hangout for a bit then down for the rest of your day.

Udo (Cow Island)

- Ferry is a minimum fare cab ride from sunrise peak. (Or walking distance) Rent some scooters if you are short on time. Otherwise, find a minbak, or set up your tent on a beach. Rent bicycles and take a tour of the island. Jeju Olle's 13th trail is on Udo, it takes less than 5 hours to walk it. There are four distinct beaches on Udo; a black sand beach, a coral beach, a white sand beach, and not on the map, the rock beach. There is amazing snorkelling to be had and caves to swim through!

Kim Yong Gap Gallery

- A photo gallery from a Jeju man who was in love with the beauty that is this wonderful little island. - When on route 3 of the Jeju Olle you will pass this gallery. Definitely a great little place to check out. - At the end of the route you will end up at Pyoseon Beach, a great place for a dunk before your next adventure!

Pyoseon Folk Village

- Across the road from Pyoseon Beach this folk village has a convenient set up for foreigners who would like to have an idea of traditional life on Jeju.

South Side of the Island

Donnaeko

- This valley has a fabulous little campground. It is beautiful and has a nice little waterfall. It has the coldest water on Jeju. It's the BEST place in on Jeju in the middle of the summer.

There are many waterfalls on this end of the island. You don't really need directions there will be signs for them posted on the main roads.

Oedolgae

- This unusual rock formation has a story of a woman who died waiting for her fishman husband who went out to sea and she believed to have drowned.

Yakcheonsa

- This is an impressive temple. Close to many other attractions.

Museum of African Art

- This is a neat little museum. Make sure to catch the drumming performance if you go. Confirm showtimes using the tourist info line, 064-1330.

[http://english.tour2jeju.net/main/view.php?idno=50183&menu_id=16&cpage=1&listcount=12 Jusangjeolli)

- Behind the ICC (International Convention Centre) is this amazing view. These rocks are beautiful any time of the year, especially just before a typhoon.

South/West Side of the Island

SanBangSan

- This little mountain has a beautiful Buddhist temple on the side of it. - You can walk up a trail to a small cave with a big Buddha in it. Make sure to drink from the pure mountain spring.

Yongmeori Coast Dragon's Head Coast

- This coastal walk is GORGEOUS! - Call the tourist info line ahead of time to make sure you get there for low-tide. The walk is closed at high-tide. - You can access it from the entrance at the Dutch replica ship. You can see this from SanBangSan.

(still in working on this section.....) (west side section to follow as well...)
