IRC, or Internet Relay Chat, is one of the oldest means of chatting on the internet.

There's a #couchsurfing channel at freenode.net. Conversations will mainly be technical, or by people at the Collective, but feel free to chat about anything related to CS. There is also a #couchsurfing channel at IRC.net

X-Chat is good free software for many platforms. There are several free (as in freedom) Windows versions:

If you do not have any chat client you can still join the chat by using jircii (jIRCii is an Internet Relay Chat client (IRC) for Windows, MacOS X, and Linux. ).click here to launch the java client . under the servers (connection>connect>server choose the free node server and then enter your details . Type in /join #couchsurfing to join the chat room.
