Nightlife type things to do in Brisbane
This page is all about entertainment type things to do in Brisbane.
A good place to start are the music and entertainment mags, Rave, Scene and Time Off.
The main places to be entertained (in a drinking/music kind of way) in Brisbane are the inner city suburbs, and the city centre itself. The Valley in particular, is the 'official' entertainment area. New Farm, Paddington, West End, Kangaroo Point, Teneriffe and Bulimba also have an ever increasing number of little bars and night spots. You'll find that most places outside of the City and Valley will also serve food - its a licensing type of thing.
The Valley
Most of the pubs/clubs are centred around the Brunswick St Mall and Ann St. Some good live music venues include
- - The Zoo
- - Rics
- - The Troubador
- - Arena
- - Tivoli
Rics is free with bands most nights - the rest will cost you varying amounts depending on the artists - the Arena and the Tivoli are the bigger venues
Club type venues include
- - Family
- - The Met
- - The Empire (affectionately known as the Vampire in the old days)
The City
The Uni bars
The Red Room - University of Queenlsand at St.Lucia
The Guild Bar - Queensland University of Technology at Garden's Point
New Farm
Check out Alibi Room on Brunswick St, do Taco Tuesdays and Quiz nights and all sorts of other things. The more up market (kinda) Gerties and Star Anise are just across the road. New Farm is home to the fantastic Powerhouse. There are also a few bars over in Tenerriffe including the Ice Bar, which shows lots of sport, the London club, another lush location, and Cru Bar, down on James St
West End
The bars are mainly clustered on a small chunk of Boundary St, and include Lychee Lounge, gorgeous cocktails, decor and beheaded barbie doll chandeliers, The Pavilion, which has a big pool hall, Uber, which is quite 'clubby', Rumpus Room, which as the name suggests, has bean bags, Lock n Load, has bands most fri, sat, sun nights, often formed from elements of the number of jazz/funk musos who seem to live in West End. On Hardgrave rd there is Tounge n Groove, which also has lots of live music.
