CouchSurfing Music CD
The CouchSurfing Wiki, an informal workspace which anyone can edit.
There is a project for creating "a special, two sided AND double cd for sale by CouchSurfing, with about 50 songs by CouchSurfing members. All profits to benefit CS in their struggle to grow and make things better for us." In this page we propose songs to be added to the CD.

It would be cool if the whole CD is available under the Creative Commons ShareAlike Attribution license. That way people are free to copy and remix songs. Included songs should be released under Creative Commons licences as well.
In this way it will be possible to sell the CD also on magnatune, jamendo and much more.

Couch Surfing CD Project Guiding Principles
- Songs must be original.
- Songs must somehow be related to Couch Surfing directly or indirectly.
- Songs must be written, produced and performed by members of the Couch Surfing community.
- Songs will be chosen based on quality of production, quality of sound and relevance to Couch Surfing.
- Only songs that have album-quality sound will be considered.
- The Couch Surfing CD must have a variety of genres and no songs will be refused based solely on incompatibility of genre.
- Songs can be instrumental or a cappella and in any language.
- We must keep an open mind at all times.
- This CD is about Couch Surfing and NOT personal gain or exposure.
- This CD is a collaboration and everybody who is part of this project has equal creative control.
- In the event that we can not agree, the majority will rule.
- This project should be driven by our desire to collaborate with members from around the globe and our desire to spread the word about Couch Surfing.
- By the end of this project, we need to truly believe that we have done our best to represent Couch Surfing, its vision and its members.
- The Couch Surfing CD must be a collaborative album of a PROFESSIONAL caliber. Anything less than “professional quality” should not be considered. This includes music production, sound quality, lyrics, graphic elements and text. Again, we must keep an open mind.
- We must take the time required to PROPERLY finish this project. We can NOT rush this project!

Couch Surfing CD Project Deadlines
The following dates are suggested deadlines and are subject to change as per suggestions and availability.
- April 1st – Create legal team. This team will have the responsibility of researching copyright issues, options, prepare legal paperwork, promote and inform artists about the Couch Surfing CD Project’s position on copyright and artists’ and the group’s responsibility. (Responsibility: Group, Karim)
- May 1st, 2007 – Song submission deadline (Responsibility: All artists)
- May 12th, 2007– Songs will be posted online for selection made by group (Responsibility: Mikky)
- June 8th, 2007 – Song selection deadline (Responsibility: Couch Surfing CD group)
- July 13th, 2007 – Deadline to find graphic designer (Responsibility: Karim)
- July 20th, 2007 – Deadline for legal issues such as copyright, signature of contracts, Creative commons (Responsibility: legal team)
- July 27th, 2007 – Selection of CD specs (booklet, insert, number of panels or pages, etc.) (Responsibility: graphic designer, group)
- August 1st, 2007 – Deadline to find CD manufacturer and pricing
- August 1st, 2007 - Final CD track listing (Responsibility: group)
- August 3rd, 2007 – Deadline for submission of pictures (Responsibility: All artists on CD, graphic designer, Karim)
- August 10th, 2007 – Final collection of lyrics, credits and other CD related text (Responsibility: All artists on CD, graphic designer, group)
- August 20th, 2007 – Work out financing of CD manufacturing
- August 24th, 2007 – Final selection of pictures and graphics (Responsibility: group, graphic designer)
- September 21st, 2007 – Deadline for CD mastering (Responsibility: Karim, mastering engineer)
- September 21st, 2007 – Deadline for graphic layout (Responsibility: Graphic designer)
