Common symbols

The CouchSurfing Wiki, an informal workspace which anyone can edit.

Common profile information like "vegan" or "pets welcome" could be displayed using a basic set of pictograms.

Why

Not only could hosts easily alert couchsearchers to issues which may be important to them, but more hosts would be encouraged to post this information if a common symbol were available.

What to do

1. Decide which information needs to be symbolised
2. Create a standard symbol for these bits of information
3. The CouchSurfingprofile system would then need to support these symbols

Suggested common profile data to be symbolised

1. Vegan, Vegetarian, Pescetarian (should this be one symbol or several?)
2. No smoking
3. Smokers welcome
4. Pets welcome
5. No pets
6. Vampire

Example icons or pictograms

Note: these images must be free to use. (I.e. don't just copy anything from sources which aren't free, i.e. under a Creative Commons or other free license.)

Images must be consistant. A style and format must be established. Existing icons used on Couchsurfing profiles are 35 pixels by 35 pixels. Symbols will be used by persons all over the globe and must be as universal as possible.
