Canterbury is a province that spans from the Conway River in the north to the Waitaki River in the south and from the Pacific Ocean to the Southern Alps. The province's diverse range of natural beauty includes Aotearoa's highest mountains, beautiful limestone rock formations, ancient Maori cave art, swift snow fed rivers, and the slow-flowing Avon river that travels through the largest city of the south island, Christchurch. The city is full of culture and personalities, while the rural communities tend to the many farms that are located on the plains. In winter there are a number of very good ski fields within 90 minutes drive of Christchurch.
