Brisbane:Suburbs
The CouchSurfing Wiki, an informal workspace which anyone can edit.
Brisbane addresses are suburb-specific, which means it is essential to indicate the suburb (apart from street and house number). Many street names occur in different suburbs, so unless you know the suburb, it may be difficult to find the address.
Inner city areas
Fortitude Valley
We call it the Valley. Brisbane's first officially declared 'Entertaiment Precinct'. A cluster of cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants and clubs. Lots of concert venues. Hosts many festivals, including the annual Valley Feista, the Laneway Festival and Chinese New Year. The epicentre is Brunswick Street mall and Chinatown. The Valley is one of the main areas where there are lots of good places to drink, dance, listen to music etc.
New Farm
Walk down the hill towards the river from the Valley and you come to New Farm, one of the original suburbs of Brisbane. New Farm has a vibrant cafe scene as well as some amazing houses, especially along the river. New Farm Park is a Brisbane favourite and when the flowers all bloom in Spring it's gorgeous by sight and smell.
Paddington/Red Hill
West End
West End is a vibrant, diverse community that has great local pride and an amazing amount of participation and self-determination. The West End markets in Davies Park are a great weekly shopping trip/adventure and the area has lots of nice cafes and restaurants, clubs and pubs. See the map for some of our favourites.

Like the GG's? - this is your suburb
St Lucia
One of the University of Queensland's campuses is located here. Reachable by bus, e.g. the 412 bus from the city, or the CityCat ferry. There is also a bus and pedestrian bridge (Eleanor Schonell though most likely to be called the Green Bridge) that runs from UQ to Dutton Park (which is near West End), good cycle route.
Toowong
Toowong is one of Brisbane's older suburbs and is characterised by green, leafy roads with old (in Brisbane language ~100years...) weatherboard houses, including many beautiful "Queenslanders", as well as a rising number of apartment buildings. It is situated on the river, 4km from the CBD & close to the University of Queensland, and is well serviced by ferry, bus & rail, and on the cycle route along the Brisbane River.
It is home to 12 Qld Heritage listed sites, including: Brisbane Boys' College, one of Brisbane's oldest cemeteries, several monuments and memorials, and the Regatta Hotel (opened 1887 and one of two of Brisbane's oldest and most popular watering holes that are in Toowong, the other being the Royal Exchange Hotel, known affectionately as the RE, opened 1876). Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens and the planetarium, and a nice variety of cafes, shops, and restaurants can also be found here.
