Arthurs Pass
From the CouchSurfing Wiki, an informal workspace which anyone can edit.
Arthurs Pass is a small alpine village located in the Southern Alps on New Zealand's South Island. It is a beautiful stopping place when crossing between the East and West coast.
The village lies in the heart of Arthurs Pass National Park. The D.O.C. Visitors Centre is located there and contains some wonderful displays on the history, geology, fauna and flora of the Park. The Visitors Centre is also the place to obtain up to date information on the many day-walks and multi-day tramps in the area.
The Alpine Chapel is a stunning place for quiet contemplation, meditation and prayer.
The Tranz Alpine train runs on a return trip from Christchurch to Greymouth each day and stops at Arthurs Pass. It is expensive but quite impressive passing through the Waimakariri Gorge.
