Anglet is a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in Aquitaine in southwestern France. The town's name is pronounced [ãglet]; i.e. with the final 't' sounded, unusually for French. Anglet lies in the traditional province of Labourd of the Northern Basque Country, while its inhabitants, called Angloys, have been traditionally Gascon speaking. The river Adour enters the Atlantic between here and Tarnos. A pine forest covers 10% of the town (primarily in the Pignada, Lazaret and Chiberta areas). The sandy coast which commences 200 km (120 mi) to the North at the Pointe de Grave, the end of the Gironde estuary, ends here. Numerous dikes mark the Anglet shoreline.
